Finishing - Tape to Film via Digital Intermediate

  1. Shoot HD Tape in Camera using SRW, D5, HD Cam or DVC Pro HD
  2. Downconvert HD tapes to Digi Beta, Beta Sp, DV Cam, DV, or VHS
  3. Rent or buy an off line non-linear editing system (Avid, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, etc)
  4. Input (digitize) the video tapes into the editing system
  5. Spend as much time as needed to make creative decisions and edit the material into the final edited version. No cutting is actually done since all the information is on a hard drive. Slug out sections (leave space holders) for effects and titles.
  6. Create a Data File of Effects, Supers, Titles, etc. Downconvert these elements and input into the edit system.
  7. Output an Edit Decision List (EDL) from the edit system that represents the final editing decisions.
  8. Give the EDL, the original film Data File, & Effects Data File to an on-line Data File editing session. During an auto-conform editing session the a final video Data File Master will be created that will match the final edit
  9. Make a sound track master by creating or improving the dialog, effects & music.
  10. Input final audio master into the Data File
  11. Make an Optical Negative Sound Track
  12. Do a tape to tape color correct session
  13. Make a Film Out Film Negative (HD Video to a Film Negative)
  14. From Film Out Negative and Optical Neg Track make a Composite Check Print
  15. After approval of the Check Print, make Release Prints
